Thank you to the team, great work !
By Jo Garvey:
Undergraduates have recently been taking part in their ‘Service Learning ‘ module at Nottingham Trent University working with local organisations and business to solve ‘real world’ problems within the organisation.
Our brief for them was to explore the transition from sixth form or college to university and how well students feel prepared for student life.
Their findings confirm that most young people feel unprepared for the transition. Prospective university students identify workload and finance as the main concern. Whilst current first year students identified living with other people, mental health, finances and workload as their biggest challenges.
This provides WTF with an opportunity to improve preparation for the transition with our local sixth forms and colleges. We plan to partner with a local sixth form to pilot a project which includes workshops, talks, other strategies.
They were a great group of young people who care and who want to do their bit, like WTF does, to improve the wellbeing of young people and reduce young suicide.
Thanks to the students, Ricky Gee, and Catherine Gillam for their ongoing support.
