Another Wellbeing Library in place – report from Lindsey Fox
On Wednesday, Esteem Valley Academy received their first Wellness Library delivery from Why Talking Fixes Will Garvey Trust Foundation. EVA staff member Lindsey has gone above and beyond for this project and shares her story below.
“I am thrilled to announce that we have had our first Wellness Library delivered into our Bennerley site. This has been funded by local charity, Why Talking Fixes. Based in West Hallam, the charity focuses on suicide prevention and raising awareness of young people’s mental health struggles.
The books cover all sorts of things from Anxiety and depression to self care and exam stress. There are books written by teenagers for teenagers. Wellness isn’t all about turmeric shots and yoga retreats, it’s the nod of acknowledgement from staff to students which says, I see you, I’m here for you.
There will be similar libraries also placed at our two other sites, with a chill out area at Kirk Hallam to make sure our students take the time to take care.
In March I raised over £600 for the charity by doing a 5K swim – I need to get my thinking cap on for what I can do next! I won’t rest until I see the right book in all the right hands!
At Esteem Valley Academy we take the care and wellbeing of our students seriously. If reading a book, about a person going through a similar situation, gives our students a new coping strategy and some hope, then every single length of that pool was worth it.”
