WTF take over the Shipley Park 5k Run. So good to be involved in local events and offer the opportunity to talk

Park Runs are fabulous. We feel privileged to help run the local event and to get the opportunity to talk with runners, walkers and ramblers

WTF volunteers turned up in their numbers to help marshal the Parkrun at Shipley Park on a gorgeous, wintry, Saturday morning.

Nearly 200 runners turned up to run the 5k. Helen Chambers (WTF Trustee) organised the event (she’s part of the parkrun team) and shared information about the work we do and how we aim to support young people in our local community with the runners. Our volunteers cheered them on, and we were there at the finish line to answer their questions and to listen when they wanted to share their stories.

It is always a privilege when someone chooses to open up to us and this event reminded us of why it’s so important for us to be visible and approachable in our local community.

We’re already planning to takeover the Parkrun again, and can’t wait to meet more amazing people, and to share our message of ‘why talking fixes’.

Thanks Helen for organising and for Shipley Park Parkrun for inviting us to ‘takeover’.
