Lots of enjoyment took place whilst promoting awareness for Will and young people who are struggling too
Another summer comes, another Will Garvey Memorial football match happens… This time the venue was Eastwood Community FC and what a day it was for ‘it’! The sun was shining, the wind was breezing and the turf felt perfect beneath our feet. We had a great turnout on the day, plenty of family and friends, a few new faces too.
The tournament was made up of three teams, WhyTalkingFixes featuring Will’s Dad, 45 club featuring a young trustee and finally Garibaldi Girls, the Nottingham Forest female supporters group. Around 4pm the teams were led out the tunnel by referee Liam Veyro to the sound of applause and heritage footie tunes. The players lined up in the centre circle and respectfully shook hands and commanded good luck to one another.
45 club and Garibaldi Girls kicked us off with the only draw of the afternoon, soon the goals started rolling in as it was clear there were a few contenders for the golden boot award. We saw score lines as dramatic as 7-2 and 6-1! As we winded down with the final game between Garibaldi Girls taking on WTF, the team in red and white only needed one more goal to win the whole thing and they did just that… Well done to Garibaldi Girls on securing the win, James Sumner picked up the golden glove trophy whilst Alfie Hazard walked away with player of the tournament.
After the teams headed back into the tunnel it was time for the raffle to be announced and the grand prize on this very day was a signed Nottingham Forest shirt from the recent season, we made over £600 through selling programmes, raffle tickets, VIP packages and playing fees. Thank you to all involved and we will see you next summer.
