Mental Health First Aid course

Hi, I’m Jo, Will’s mum. I’m really pleased to have attended this two day course organized by Birmingham Mind.

It was a really small group of 7, which gave everyone lots of opportunities to share their experiences of mental health, from a personal and professional perspective. It built on information shared at the Mental Health Conference I’d attended earlier in the year at Derby University, but formalized the training with a certificate.

The focus of this course was the mental health and well being of young people, providing information about risk factors for this age group, and exploring suicide prevention.  The session on suicide was a bit tough: all I could focus on was the mistakes I feel I made in the weeks before Will died.

Yet, I’m confident that doing this course and setting up this charity will help somebody else make better decisions than I did, recognise when their child is suffering and act accordingly to save them.

Training is invaluable: if you want to get involved with WTF drop us a line. We’d love to hear from you.
