Kirk Hallam Christmas Fair provides the opportunity to talk to locals

Kirk Hallam Christmas Fair – we’ll be back!

There was Santa, there were reindeer, and there were cakes. What more could you want at a Christmas Fair? The weather was a bit miserable but it didn’t dampen the spirits of everyone there. So many people stopped to leave messages of kindness and support, to leave their ideas for promoting self care – the Wellbeing Tree was covered in messages by the end of the day.

Part of our mission in attending such events is to raise awareness of mental health and to create talking communities and it is a privilege to share the lived experiences of the people of Kirk Hallam who stop to talk. In these conversations we know that talking really can help, though it’s not the answer to everything and doesn’t suit everyone, but people tell us over and over, that when they feel listened to and valued, they find they are on the first step to recovery. We know there is much to do, but these incidental conversations are making a difference and so we must continue to create these opportunities for talking.

Thank you to Kirk Hallam Community Network for inviting us. We’re looking forward to the next one!
