Jo talks WTF with Erewash Rotary Club in Stanton By Dale
It was an absolute pleasure to visit the Erewash Rotary Club this week and talk to them about WTF.
Not least because of the very warm welcome and offer of cake and a cuppa. The group meets fortnightly at The Old School House in Stanton by Dale and whilst I might have been a bit worried about how to do a talk in a coffee shop, my fears were dispelled straight away.
Stuart helped set up the ppt and Tanya sorted the refreshments, and everyone who came to the meeting introduced themselves, shook my hand, and welcomed me. It really was what I needed to settle the nerves.
The talk itself was well received and there were plenty of questions afterwards. Inevitably the talk soon centred on individual experiences and just how difficult it can be for young people to get the help they need. If nothing else, it reinforced why what we do, in our own little way, is so important in our community.
I learned a lot too: I hadn’t realized just how active the Rotary Club is in our community. They support, financially and in their time, all sorts of activities including food banks, a community allotment, sending old spectacles to Africa, and repurposing old and worn out equipment like sewing machines and gardening tools, amongst other projects.
They are a great bunch of people, who made me feel so welcome, that if I had the time I would definitely want to volunteer with them.
Thanks for having me!
